Sheila Myjo is an actor, talk show host, and food and gardening blogger based in Los Angeles who steadfastly believes that anyone can learn to cook if they are given the proper tools, a little knowledge, and the confidence to try.

Growing up in the Seattle area, Sheila’s own culinary journey began when she was a young girl, helping her mother to bake and learning how to read an ingredients list and follow basic cooking instructions. However, it wasn’t until her early 30s, when unemployment forced her to spend more time in the kitchen in order to stretch her food budget, that cooking went from being an occasional hobby to a full-time fascination.

Since then, Sheila has not only developed an insatiable curiosity about all things culinary, but she has also grown to understand how important it is to know where our food comes from, to have better control over what we put in our bodies. It is no secret that America today is facing the twin epidemics of obesity and starvation, and one of the key tools in combatting this problem is educating people about food and getting them back into their kitchens and cooking for themselves. To this end, Sheila has created “Getting Schooled” in the hopes that people will find it an amusing, no-pressure tool for supplementing, or even beginning, their kitchen education, while learning a fair bit herself along the way.

When not hovering over a cutting board or writing about hovering over a cutting board, Sheila enjoys knitting, hiking, playing rhythm guitar (badly), and tending both her patio garden and the community garden plot she shares with a friend. She’s also been known to dabble in web design and painting, is fluent in geek, and is the proud owner of a respectable, if slightly dated, graphic novel collection.
